Polonnaruwa Vatadage is a well-famous ruins located in Polonnaruwa. There are ten Vatadages in Sri Lanka, and the most popular one is Polonnaruwa Vatadage. Vatadages reflects Buddhist structures found in Sri Lanka. This structure is built into Buddulakara design. The upper part of the Vatadage has been destroyed; only the lower part remains. Vatadage was built by King Parakramabahu in the 12th century. The Vatadage was constructed to protect the tooth relic of Buddha. The Temple of tooth is now placed in the Temple of Kandy. Architectural view of vatadage created ancient beauty to the Pollonnaruwa and extremely inviting for tourists.
